I use AI, and I think it is a fantastic tool.
For a home buyer, it can be especially useful before and during the search because it can help you research things that matter to your life.
The point is not to choose between AI and your Realtor.
They do different jobs.
A companion article explains the Fair Housing distinction in Why Can’t My Realtor Just Answer That? Ask This Instead.
Use AI to Help You Do the Research
Maybe you want to live within walking distance of a particular church.
Maybe you need access to a Regional Rail station.
Maybe LGBTQ community resources matter to you.
Maybe you are comparing healthcare, family locations, senior apartments, continuing care communities, assisted living options, or other services.
AI can help you organize those questions and find places to start researching.
For example, you could ask AI to:
- Find houses of worship near specific train stations
- Identify LGBTQ organizations or healthcare resources in an area
- Locate official crime-data sources
- Compare transportation options
- Find later-life housing options and what those organizations publicly say about their services
- Organize several priorities into a list of areas to research further
Then check the sources.
AI can get things wrong.
Realtors can get things wrong.
If something matters to a major housing decision, verify it with the organization responsible for the information.
Then Bring the Criteria Back to Your Realtor
Instead of saying:
“Where should someone like me live?”
You can come back and say:
“This is the church I want to be near.”
“These train stations work for me.”
“These are the neighborhoods I want to explore.”
“These are the resources that matter to me.”
Now your Realtor has specific criteria to work with.
Keep Using AI After the House Search Starts
AI does not suddenly become useless once you begin looking at houses.
Keep using it to organize questions, research terminology, compare information, and understand what you may need to investigate further.
At the same time, your Realtor is working with you in the actual transaction.
That can include standing in the house with you, communicating with the other side, preparing and discussing offers, working through inspections, dealing with appraisal issues, negotiating, and helping you understand the real-estate decisions that change as the transaction moves forward.
Those are different jobs.
Neither AI nor your Realtor should be making the final life decision for you.
You are.
I created a free guide through Just Ask Jess with copy-and-paste AI prompts to help you research some of the questions that come up when deciding where to live.

Use the prompts.
Look at the sources.
Decide what matters to you.
Then bring those criteria back to your Realtor.
Use everything available to you to make a better-informed decision.
