Who Usually Starts the Conversation About Moving—Parents or Kids?

“This is a question I see come up all the time—especially in families who care about each other.

Who usually starts the conversation about moving: the parents, or the kids?

Most of the time, the answer is… both. Just at very different moments.

Parents are usually thinking, ‘We’re okay for now, but we don’t want to make the wrong move.’

Kids are thinking, ‘I don’t want to wait until this becomes an emergency.’

Neither side is wrong. They’re just standing in different places.

Where this goes sideways is when people rush or assume the other person isn’t listening. My role is often to slow the conversation down so everyone can hear the same information at the same time.

Planning doesn’t mean deciding. It just means you’re not doing this alone.”
